Typhoon Uwan rapidly strengthens as it approaches the Philippines, prompting warnings of destructive winds, heavy rainfall, and possible life-threatening conditions.
At least 204 people are now known to have died in the Philippines as a result of the earlier storm, while more than 100 are still missing. Five people also died in Vietnam, where strong winds uprooted trees, tore off roofs, and smashed large windows.

Typhoon Kalmaegi battered the Philippines, and it's now heading for Vietnam as another potential monster storm grows at sea.
Kalmaegi was a typhoon in the Philippine Sea Monday afternoon Philippine Time, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center said in its latest advisory. Flash flooding can occur well inland and away from the storm’s center. Even weaker storms can produce excessive rainfall that can flood low-lying areas.
