My experience with USB hubs suggests that they would fail at the mere sight of such a thing. Or any other physical thing, for that matter. I've yet to find one that isn't a total PoS waiting to fail.
When you think of USB sticks, you probably see them as portable storage devices. However, they can also serve other useful purposes beyond just storage. That said, not all of these uses are harmless.
