Dangerous cold, lake effect snow continue for Michigan. Arctic blast returns this weekend
Lakeshore communities along Lake Michigan, particularly in Muskegon, Ottawa and possibly Oceana counties, could see intense snowfall with totals exceeding six inches as the system interacts with the lake boundary. Winds will increase Wednesday, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions.
There is a growing signal for winter weather across the Southern U.S. for the coming weekend. This could include at least parts of North Carolina on Saturday and Sunday.
Snow was on the ground in south Alabama on Sunday morning, with the southern winter storm outperforming expectations in some places. The National Weather Service offices in Mobile and Tallahassee, Fla., which cover all of south Alabama, have gotten a few reports of snow up to 2 inches from around the region.
